It’s inevitable that as we get older, our skin and face start to age as well. Often times, people seek out different methods or procedures to help bring the youthfulness back to their face. Before you decide if and which procedure is right for you, let us show you how the face ages in this video from DermTV.
The skin ages differently for everyone but there are two main causes to the appearance of aging in your face: 1) age related loss of fat and 2) age and sun related loss of elasticity in your skin. This video shows the structure of a youthful face shape versus one that’s gone through the aging process. You’ll notice that the shape of a younger face forms an inverted triangle from the cheek bones to the jaw. As the face ages, the prominent cheek bones start to sink and the jaw starts to fall causing our aging face to resemble more of an upright triangle.
There is a number of facial procedures, both surgical and non-invasive, which combined with the right skin care will help reverse the appearance of these symptoms. Dr. Sherif Khattab, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Los Angeles has both the experience and the expertise to provide you best advice in how to achieve a younger, natural look.

You don’t have to suffer because your ears are imperfect. Whether it is their size, shape or the way they protrude, the cosmetic surgery procedure known as otoplasty will help.
Otoplasty literally means “reshaping ears” and is one of the most commonly performed procedures among children and adults. This procedure which should only be performed by an experienced plastic surgeon can have a dramatic impact not just on a person’s appearance but also the overall quality of their life.
Commonly known as “ear pinning”, otoplasty can be performed on children as old as 6 or 7, when their ears have grown to nearly their adult size, or younger if they are determined to be able to successfully undergo surgery and the recovery. A cosmetic surgery for children at this young age often prevents years of suffering and psychological damage from ridicule and teasing in school.
Otoplasty is performed as an outpatient procedure with little post-operative discomfort. The recovery is quick, with mild pain and swelling immediately after the procedure but most of the swelling gone in the first week or two. For young patients, it's a good idea to keep them out of school the first week, as the wounds are still healing and we don't want the ears to get knocked or bumped.
The real joy for a surgeon comes in having the patients see the dramatic results immediately. Children will express these feelings very quickly and the adults cannot believe how easy it was to change something they had wanted for so many years.
If you’re wondering if ear surgery is the right cosmetic procedure for you or your child, give us at Beyond Beautiful a call. Dr. Sherif Khattab is a board-certified plastic surgeon who will assess your needs in a comfortable environment and friendly, gentle manner, and give the best recommendation on the cosmetic procedure possible.

Women decide to have breast augmentations every day for many different reasons. Whether it’s to correct a health issue, improve self-confidence or achieve a desired silhouette, women want to make sure their new breasts will last, especially if they become pregnant. Here are a few common questions about pregnancy and breast implants answered:
Do implants interfere with pregnancy?
Implants are usually made of a soft silicone shell and filled with saline water or silicone gel. Their composition isn’t harmful to the body during pregnancy. Your body shouldn’t be affected by the implant, while the implant shouldn’t be affected by the natural changes your body experiences during pregnancy.
What will happen to my breasts during pregnancy?
During the months of pregnancy, your body goes through many changes which depend completely on the person. It’s natural for the breasts to increase in size and shape. You can expect your breasts to grow as your body prepares itself for childbirth. This is a process known as engorgement, but it shouldn’t have an effect on the implant itself.
What will happen to my breasts after pregnancy?
After pregnancy, your skin has been stretched because the breast tissue volume has decreased once the baby is born. But augmented breasts usually maintain more volume because the volume from the implant doesn’t change during pregnancy. This means that women who have breast implants usually don’t experience the loss in volume or sagginess that can occur in unaugmented breasts.
Can I breast feed with breast implants?
Yes. The majority of women with breast implants are able to breast feed successfully. The milk glands that increase the breast volume during pregnancy still form and lactation still occurs, regardless of the implant. You should have the same ability to breast feed as those without implants. Some mothers, regardless of implants, choose formula over breast feeding – it all depends on the child and mother.
Some women may be interested in a breast lift after pregnancy to correct any sagginess they may have experienced as a result. Breast augmentations are common procedures among women today, so it’s natural to have concern about how pregnancy can affect them. Majority of women stay pleased with their breasts after a breast augmentation.

It’s safe to say that the majority of us are aware of what BOTOX® is and even what it’s used for. BOTOX® is a prescription medicine that is injected in the frown lines in between the eyebrows. It temporarily reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles by paralyzing or relaxing the muscles in that area. It’s quick, relatively painless and great for temporarily improving the appearance of lines and wrinkles. But do you know how it actually prevents the wrinkles from forming?
Take a look at this video from DermTV.com, which examines the process of how BOTOX® actually keeps the wrinkles from appearing on your face. To understand exactly how BOTOX® prevents wrinkles, you need to know how wrinkles are formed. Wrinkles are caused by the repetitive folding and creasing of the skin. This causes the collagen to become more elastic and finally break. Once BOTOX® is injected into these areas; the muscles become paralyzed or relaxed, allowing the area to appear smooth and nearly wrinkle free.
BOTOX® is a great choice in temporarily reducing fine lines and wrinkles. Come visit board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Sherif Khattab at Beyond Beautiful and let him help shave years off your appearance with the right treatment plan. One of the common signs of aging is the loss of fullness in the middle of the face with flattening of the cheek area, a hollowed out look around the eyes and prominence of nasolabial folds.
Radiesse® filler injections are comprised of a substance naturally found in human body which does not require allergy testing. It is an excellent filler for restoring lost volume to the areas of cheeks, temples, and jawline and what truly distinguishes it is that it over time stimulates your body to create new collagen, giving you very natural-looking results.
Another advantage of Radiesse® in non-surgical cheek or jaw enhancements, as well as any other procedure that requires firmness or structural support, comes from its consistency as it is firmer than the hyaluronic fillers. However, areas with thin skin like tear troughs and lips are better injected with Juvederm® and the combination of the two is often a good choice for patients.
You will see a difference on the day of your treatment, and results last for a year or longer for many patients. It is also an excellent product for use in filling the nasolabial folds and marionette lines, where it can last up to 18 months.
Common side effects include redness, swelling and bruising which usually settle in a few days.
To learn more about if Radiesse is right for you, give us at Beyond Beautiful a call at (310) 997-2827. Dr. Khattab is board-certified plastic surgeon in the Los Angeles area. His warm and friendly staff will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have. Give us a call today.
