    What is a Mini Facelift?

    Last updated 1 year ago

To explain what a mini facelift is, we need to offer a little bit of background history about facial rejuvenation and lifting of the face over the past years. Years ago everybody got the exact same type of facelift with variable results depending on the underlying tissue and what the patient needs, they all got the same result.  In the 21st century, after refinement of all plastic surgery techniques, the procedures are mostly customized to the patient’s needs and specific anatomical requirements.

A mini facelift is a customized lifting procedure to elevate certain parts of the cheek, midface or jowl area without performing a full face and necklift. Its advantages are: less invasion to the body, short scar and much faster recovery. Most of the time it can be performed under local anesthesia, so general anesthesia risks are avoided. The cost of this procedure is relatively less than a complete full dissection of the traditional facelift operation.

One of the limitations of the mini facelift is that the correction is mostly from the cheek bone and outwards towards the ear and you see less improvement in the gravitational effects in the front part of the face, closer to the lips. If a patient needs more lifting around the jowls in the front portions of the face and around the lips and mouth then a mini facelift may be less ideal for them.

As with all cosmetic surgery, the procedure has to fit patient’s needs and the existing anatomy will dictate the best approach for a more lasting result. It is important to ask your plastic surgeon about the different techniques they would recommend for your specific needs and customize it if necessary or desirable to your anatomy and the desired improvement.

A mini facelift gives very good results that are lasting for specific needs but is not best suited for all patients. That is another reason to seek consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon that is aware of all the new techniques for facial rejuvenation.

4 Essential Skin Care Tips for Winter

    Last updated 1 year ago

Winter can take a toll on skin and even those of us who live in milder climates with less seasonal changes can still experience irritating conditions like skin dryness and tightness. Yet winter is also a great time to repair the skin after a long summer of sun damage.

Here are some things you can do to ensure your skin stays healthy during this season:

    • Exfoliate.  A good way to start is to get a gentle cleansing and exfoliating facial peel to get rid of the flaky skin that has built up. Exfoliating will also increase the effectiveness of using skin moisturizer.  We use PCA professional peels in our office and they provide great results and will not be harsh on your skin. You can also exfoliate at home using gentle scrubs like Nia24 physical Cleansing Scrub or Fenix Green Tea Exfoliating scrub, but use them in moderation.
    • Moisturize More. With the beginning of the colder months it is very important to moisturize. A heavier, oil-based moisturizer is recommended during this time but look for those that contain non-clogging oils or humectants like alpha hydroxyl acids and hyaluronic acid that attract moisture to your skin and keep it glowing and healthy.
    • Stimulate your skin. You still need to use products that activate and stimulate your skin and there is none better than Retin-A cream to do the job. This derivative of vitamin A is the only topical medication that has been proven to improve wrinkles and it is suitable for most skin types and especially recommended for those who wish to prepare their skin before undergoing surgical facial rejuvenation.
    • Don’t forget the Sunscreen. Just because the temperatures have dropped doesn’t mean your skin is not at risk from the damaging UVA and UVB rays.  Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen to your face and hands 30 minutes before going outside and reapply frequently. Colorescience Sunforgettable SPF 30 mineral sunscreen comes with a brush-on applicator that makes frequent all-over application easy and quick.  It is also a good idea to include in your regimen a product that has SPF built-in in your morning routine.

As the seasons change, it is important that you are prepared for the changes they bring. So make sure to include these tips in your winter skin care routine and you will be able to avoid the excess dryness and uncomfortable feelings you might have previously encountered. Here at Beyond Beautiful, we strive to help you become the best you you can be inside and out. So if you want to know more about winter skin care or have any questions, don’t hesitate to call us at (310) 991-2827.
